Welcome

Thank you for taking the time to visit this website where you can find out more about this key appointment for the council. I hope that you find the information here useful in making your application.

I am looking forward to working closely with our new Chief Executive to deliver the very best for the people of Uttlesford. I believe we can offer a very different way of working than many other councils. Residents for Uttlesford (R4U) is the local independent political party formed by residents for residents, and it became the majority party of the council in 2019. Our independent status enables us to focus solely on the issues that matter most in our district, and though it is still a dynamic political environment, we share a sense of common purpose and a clear mandate from our community.

There is much to do. Immediate priorities include leading the organisation through the transition to new ways of working, post pandemic. Effective leadership skills will be key to this – ensuring staff are engaged and informed throughout, and that we make the most of new ways of working, while being confident that we can maintain excellent service standards and keep our workforce safe.

We want to capitalise on new economic opportunities and industries that exist within our region, including the Ox-Cam Arc; and there will be an important role to play in managing the council’s external partnerships and relationships.

There is an excellent foundation on which to build. A prosperous investment strategy has enabled the council to make considerable funds available for key issues, such as Covid recovery, climate emergency initiatives and investments in local sports and leisure facilities. Maintaining and growing this capacity to be self-sufficient will be essential to fulfilling our promises to local people.
